PILATES
Based on the principles of centre, alignment, control, flowing movement, focus and breathing, Pilates helps realign the body, improve posture, create better body awareness and focus the mind.
Focusing on the deep abdominal muscles which support and stabilise the spine, Pilates strengthens, elongates and rebalances the body, bringing it into better alignment, so that the muscular and skeletal systems can function optimally. Pilates is particularly beneficial for those with back problems, in the rehabilitation and prevention of injury, and is a safe form of exercise for conditions such as osteoporosis, arthritis and scoliosis.
Pilates is a holistic form of exercise and my classes focus not only on strengthening the body as a whole, but also on the effect that Pilates can have on the mind, bringing an inner-awareness and sense of well-being to the practitioner. Exercises are mainly based around small controlled movements and the belief that is is better to perform two repetitions of an exercise correctly, than twenty repetitions incorrectly. Students will experience increased strength, stability and muscle tone as well as better coordination, balance, improved mind-body awareness, and the release of stress and tension.
