Pilates Retreats in Marrakech

We have been running twice-yearly Pilates Retreats at beautiful Tigmi in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains since 2014 and were included in The Telegraph’s article on ‘Five of the Best Retreats for Back Pain’

Join Emily for a week of Pilates and relaxation at this magical venue. There will be two Pilates classes a day, suitable for all levels, on the stunning covered roof-terrace with the snow-capped Atlas Mountains and the distant lights of Marrakech as your backdrop. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy - simply relax in the beautiful grounds, visit the Atlas Mountains or soak up the energy and vibrancy of the souks of Marrakech.

Please see below for dates of our next retreats at Tigmi...

Tigmi

Tucked away from the hubbub of Marrakech on the outskirts of a traditional Moroccan Berber village, you’ll find Tigmi – a retreat hotel that will redefine your idea of relaxation.

Tigmi is no ordinary hotel. Meandering corridors and courtyard paths lead to beautifully-furnished, comfortable rooms. You’ll enjoy plunge pools, secret terraces, charming gardens and myriad quiet corners in which to relax, read and recharge.

Only 30 minutes from the heart of the city, Tigmi was named a Top 12 Ethical Hideaway by Harper’s Bazaar, which described it as a “blissed-out haven that mixes style with substance”.

If you need to get away and enjoy a week of Pilates in a setting that is beautiful, relaxing and nurturing, Emily’s Pilates retreat is the place. Tigmi Hotel and Spa is stunning and I cannot fault anything about my experience there. So much so I am returning next March!

Accommodation

Accommodation is in large authentically Moroccan rooms. Intimate and quirky in their design, they are decorated with beautiful locally woven Berber cushions, covers and wall hangings.

There is an abundance of space and quiet throughout Tigmi, with rooms arranged so that you really do feel you have your own little Moroccan oasis. Many rooms also have private terraces or balconies.

With open fireplaces in the bedrooms, or separate sitting rooms, and luxurious, specially made, bath, shower and body products, Tigmi is a magical retreat and a very special place to stay.

All rooms contain a safe for guests’ use.

Pools & Gardens

With two pools and a wealth of beautiful aromas, the stunning gardens at Tigmi are yours to enjoy.

During your stay, Tigmi’s grounds are yours to explore and savour. Mazy paths lined with banana palms and citrus trees lead you around the beautiful gardens. Roses, hibiscus and bougainvillea bring a delicate aroma and add bursts of colour to Tigmi’s garden walls. Bask in the sun, or seek out the shade. You’ll find both in abundance.

The terrace where the twice-daily Pilates classes will be held is showered in sunlight and offers stunning views of the Atlas Mountains. It also looks down upon the first of Tigmi’s two pools – perfect for cooling off with a quick dip, or stretching your legs with a relaxing swim.

In a shady, secluded garden, you’ll find the second of the pools. Solar heated all year to 26°C and surrounded by comfortable divans, it makes for an irresistible sanctuary from the Moroccan heat.

Food & Drink

A delicious breakfast of freshly-squeezed orange juice, home-made pancakes, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals and locally-made bread will be served after the morning class.

There will be a salad buffet lunch. After sunset, following the second class of the day, we will sit down to a decadent 3-course dinner of traditional North African dishes.

Vegetarian/Vegan options and other dietary restrictions can be catered for upon request.

Pilates

There will be twice-daily classes on the roof terrace (or in the studio inside in the unlikely event that the weather is bad) – one class before breakfast, and the other in the early evening before dinner.

Classes will be suitable for all levels, and will range from gentle and relaxing, to more flowing, strength and stamina-building practices to challenge those who already regularly attend Pilates classes. Class levels will be determined and moulded to fit participating students' needs so that everyone attending will deepen their understanding of Pilates and strengthen their own practice. The morning class will be an hour long, whilst the evening class will last between 75 and 90 minutes to allow for a slightly longer class as well as a short relaxation at the end.

There will be one evening off (usually midweek) so that you have the opportunity to go into Marrakech for the evening (the Jemaa el Fna at night is definitely a sight not to be missed with its food stalls, storytellers, snake charmers and musicians!) or to travel further afield for those that would like to take advantage of one of the excursions offered by Tigmi.

There will be a maximum of 15 guests at the retreat, meaning that students will be able to receive the individual attention that can be more difficult with larger class sizes.

Tigmi Spa & Hammam

Cleanse your body. Clear your mind.

A visit to the hammam (public bathhouse) is a Moroccan tradition, and you may notice signs for the hammams within the medina of Marrakech.

Tigmi has its own beautiful hammam, with a pool, steam bath and treatment rooms available only for guests, giving you the space and privacy in which to relax.

Enjoy a traditional hammam, spa treatment or massage with Tigmi’s resident therapist using authentic Moroccan skincare products that contain locally-sourced herbs, fruits and oils.

Please note that treatments are not included within the price of the retreat and must be booked directly with the hotel.
